Hello Garage Sales R Us readers! My name is Lish and I blog over at Imprintalish. My blog is packed with photography, tales of life with two little men, ages 16 months and 3 years, recipes, crafty projects and anything pretty I find along the way. Since beginning my blog over 2 years ago, I have been on a constant journey to realize who I actually am aside from being a SAHM {soon to be WAHM once my new handmade shop opens!}It's definitely been a growing and learning experience and I am so thankful that I am able to share that with others who may be struggling with learning and accepting who they are. I try to share the real life ups and downs of balancing kids, work, free time, a husband and all the other household chores and still find time to fit ME in there somewhere. Blogging for me creates an hour or so that I can stop and reflect on the little things that happen during the day and hopefully appreciate them more.

Today I am sharing my 'garage sale' experience with you all! Trying to score a bargain is something I definitely can appreciate. Even when I was a teenager, I can vividly remember skipping school to go hunt through bins at the nearest second hand store. Staying up late to get the first look at a rummage sale, and spending Saturdays touring nearby towns with friends, to see what we could find in the antique shops.

Recently, my oldest son and I went on a little Saturday road trip...and here's what we saw on our adventures...

Funny story...2 years ago I was contemplating on this bright red coat rack at a flea market, it was only $10, but I couldn't figure out where to put it because we don't actually have a foyer and it was quite tall for the slanted ceilings in our 1.5 story house. So I sadly left it...THEN low and behold we are driving around and I spotted this on the side of the road!!! First, I never find cool stuff on the side of the road and second...in the car it went! It's a bit rough at the bottom, but a good scrub and paint will look marvelous. It's much smaller then the very first one I was looking at and think it would be so cute as a costume rack for the kids play room...

 I was super stoked to find a box of old embroidery hoops, for only $1.00! I've been wanting to do a wall display in our bedroom and these will be perfect!

 These frames were so adorable I couldn't pass them up, I will probably end up taking out the cute little prints in them though and replacing them with photographs...I am a sucker for frames and these two were $8.00...

I also found this little sign at the antique market, although probably not an antique, I just liked the colors and saying and it fit perfectly on my mantel!

As I posted earlier, Saturday was mine and C.J's 6 year anniversary. Before I start this post I want to say that it was NOT my idea to go garage saleing on our anniversary. I was fully prepared to lay around and be lazy. Going garage saleing was actually C.J.'s idea and let me tell ya, I am not going to complain about it if he wants to go!  Here is what we found this week.

I bought a bunch of handles this week. I think I will be good for the next year to be honest! I got 9 of the drawer pulls and 10 of the knobs for $2 dollars plus the lady threw in this cute green piece of fabric for FREE! It will make a cute wipey case cover! I paid about .10 cents a piece for the handles.

My mom also picked up these handles for me

She got the whole bag for $2 dollars. There are 31 handles so I paid about .06 cents a piece! 

I also picked up this fabric for $1. These colors are so popular right now! I think I will make some bows out of them.

I also bought this blanket for $2. This blanket has a great texture to it and I have been looking for one like it for a while now. Its great to have blankets like these for photography shoots!

My mom picked up these peacock feather for me for .75 cents. I will also be using these for bows

 This is a picture of two different paint sprayers. I took a really big chance on these hoping that maybe one of these would work for me. I really want a paint sprayer but for now I am too cheap to buy one. I bought both of these for $15. I also got the ladies number so if all the parts are not there I can call her to see if they can be found or just take it back to her and get my money back. If your not sure if an item will work and you can't test it out right there at the garage sale ask the seller if they mind if you bring it back if it doesn't work. If they are not ok with it that may be a hint that they are not telling you something!

 C.J. bought this auto tape measure for $2 dollars.

I bought this for our bathroom. I already have one that I was thinking about spray painting a bronze but why do that if you can find exactly what you want at another garage sale! This one was marked at $3 but I talked the lady down to 1.50.

I also bought a few cans of paint from this guy. I bought two gallon cans and two quart sized cans for $2 dollars!! Beats buying paint in the store!

 

Alright so here is the Deal of the Day. I did not buy this. I went to go visit a friend and she took me to her sons room and showed me this Love Sac she bought at a garage sale a few days earlier. You will never guess how much she paid for it! I couldn't believe it. I usually see these for between $100-$200 at garage sales. The cheapest I have even seen one for is $80. She bought this on for $25! She took the cover off and washed it and it look brand new! This was a STEAL!

OTHER AWESOME DEALS

This highchair was spotless! The seller wanted $20 for it.

 I wish I would have tried to talk the lady down on these. She wanted $15 for the big one. After seeing that I just kinda walked away cause I thought it was too expensive but these would have been so cute all painted the same color! I am really kicking myself in the bum right now! 

 Here are boxes and boxes of liquid nails. They wanted $2 a piece for the tubes. They are about $4 in the store. She was also willing to make a better deal if you bought a bunch.

 Ok here is something I was a little mad about. I just bought C.J. one of these. I paid $38 dollars for it. Here is one that is really similar for $10! And it still had all the tags on it!!! Thank goodness when I showed him he said he wanted one with smaller water bottles so we ended up taking the one I bought back to the store anyway.

 How cute are these! $5 for the set.

 Here is a bookshelf for all the kids books or whatever else you want to use it for. It was only $5!

 C.J. loves this style of couch. I think in the right setting, possibly a western office it would look great. We looked at these at a furniture store near our house because C.J. liked them so much. They were several hundred dollars. This one was only $30! I have a feeling later on down the road when C.J. has an office he will regret not buying it but we just don't have the space right now.

 This box of oval frames was $5 dollars. This would have made a really cool wall collage 

I loved this entry way table. When I asked how much the lady wanted she said "I think I will start it out at $100" This means if it wasn't selling fast enough she would be willing to go down on it! 

 Check out the price tag on the back of it! $279.97! 

 My girls would have so much fun on this John Deer tractor! It had all the parts and the battery was charged. The seller wanted $40 for it, which I am sure is a fair price but I am just still too cheap. :( 

Here is something I really want! I used to have a motorcycle in college that was exactly like this one but a different color. I paid 3,500 for mine new (I will never buy any sort of vehicle or motorcycle new again because they depreciate the second you drive them off the lot. That was a hard lesson to learn) A few years later I sold it for about 1,800. These days I have really been missing the ride and have been wanting another motorcycle. This one is only 1,000. I Kelly Blue booked it and the cheapest one that was the same year and had higher miles was 1,200. I want it! We will see what the husband says!

I am so happy to have my photographer/husband back! Here is my latest Fashion on a Dime!

This is easily one of my favorite outfits I have put together and to be honest I was not really sure if I liked the coral capris at first! I LOVE them with this outfit though! 

Here are my financial stats for this outfit:

Coral Capris- originally 7.99 but I had a Savers coupon for donating items so I got them for $6!

Floral and striped tank- $8 at the Orange County Swap Meet

Lace Blazer- $21 at the Orange Country Swap Meet

Nude shoes- $3 from a garage sale

Necklace- $1 dollar from a garage sale

Bracelets- .25 cents for all of them at a garage sale

My total outfit cost is $39.25. My DPWF (Dress Per Wear Factor) is $3.93 cents! Again my outfit cost is a little bit higher than normal but the lace blazer was a must have for my closet! You understand right? :)

Happy Anniversary

Over the weekend my Husband, C.J. and I celebrated our 6 year anniversary! 

 6 years and 2 babies later I know marrying this man was the best decision I have ever made! 

My Mom came up to take care of the girls and we spent the weekend relaxing and enjoying the outdoors. Friday we went to a movie and hiked out at Pine Valley.

Saturday we headed out to Zion's National Park and did a hike called Angel's Landing. I have been wanting to do this hike for a while now. Angel's Landing is one of the parks most dangerous hikes. It's a 5.2 mile hike which is mostly up hill and very physically taxing. There are even points where chains had to be installed so that hikers could have something to help pull themselves up the rocks with. I am not going to lie, Angel's landing has had a few fatalities which scared the CRUD out of me. I am also not really afraid of heights but when we got to the part of the hike where you had mile high cliffs on either side of you and had to pull yourself along by holding on to chains all I could think about was, "What if I fall?!" I am happy to say we made it to the top safely and the view was incredible! 

C.J. and I had so much fun together and I am so happy to be married to my best friend! I love you babe!

Hi everyone, my name is Sue and I blog over at House Pretty, or better known among many as Sue@housepretty.  I found Robin at Garage Sales R Us several months back and was instantly hooked, because we share a common passion – garage sales! 

So, when Robin contacted me with an invite to come do a guest post over here on her blog, I was thrilled, because, have I mentioned somewhere before that I love garage sales!  Also, because I love her blog, and to be a guest on it is rather awesome!  And, on top of that, this is the first guest post I’ve done.  So, if you see any bloopers, show some leeway, ok? 

Now, for the problem of deciding which garage sale to post about…my solution, slip two past her (shhh…this will be our little secret!)

The first one I picked, mainly because there was a picture of me in it.  No, I’m not that vain, lol!  I just thought you may wonder who you were “listening” to. 

One of the yard sales I went to was clear across town, at a church. They were raising money for a short term missions trip. And, this is what I wore. I have wondered if I should dress down more, perhaps get even better deals, because people might feel sorry for me, lol?!

I will prewarn you, I didn't take closeups of the individual purchases, rats!

I tried to arrange the placement so that each yard sale has it's own step, however, a couple of yard sales had to overflow to two steps.

So, here goes.

The top step, a picture frame, cost $1.50, and I think, 4 of the books, cost $ .10 each., as well as a scale, which I have been looking for, cost $5.

The second and third steps, a white/black polka dot blouse, $1, heck, cheaper than Frenchy's, I'm lovin' it! A Tanita, digital scale, like new condition, including all manuals, $3. Remember the first scale I bought? Wish I had have found this one first,grrr...! A pack of 3 pictures frames, $.50.

The third and fourth steps. Now here is where it gets interesting.

First, I will show you what the scene looked like where I got all the items on the third and fourth steps.

Yes, you see that right, and no, you haven't had too much to drink, it is in fact, two tractor trailer loads, full of goodies! There were a total of three long rows, made up of several tables joined together. Plus, there were various pieces of furniture! It was HUGE!

I got to this one half way through the morning, unfortunately. Hey, you can't be at three yard sales at the same time, after all! So, by the time I got there, around 10 a.m., they just wanted to get rid of some stuff, so they had a sale. Anything you could fit in a grocery bag, whether it was hanging out the side, balancing over the bag, they didn't care. (Hee! hee! I'll tell you the price at the end. Oh, I'm just awful!) So, I got 3 CD's, two of classical music, brand new, still sealed, 5 Dr. Seuss books, a couple of other Christian non-fiction books for myself.

Check out the lamp, whose base is made out of an antique purse. Love That!

I also got a Max and Ruby DVD, a red and white checkered picnic table cover, AND two picture frames, which were 11 x 14, with mat, 8 x 10. So, can you guess what I paid for all these?!

A whole $5 bucks, people, $5 bucks! And, let me tell you, my grocery bag was jammed, with the picture frames half in, half out of the bag.

So, for all three yard sales, I paid a grand total of $16.40! That's how to start your Saturday off!

And, the (secret)second one.

I had, probably 20 yard sales on my list, but only got to three or four. But, where I got everything was in two of them.

No, I'm not talking about the plant, you silly people! I'm talking about the item in front of it, that goes over a window, covering the hardware. I love these! This one is going in my kitchen window. I'm going to spray that baby out in my Benjamin Moore - Dove White! I paid $3.00



Please excuse Honey Babes platform rocker, and my wicker chair in the background. The reindeer family, covered in Christmas lights (yes, they all work). I have wanted a set of these for several years. They are going to go in the middle of my front flower garden below our kitchen window. I paid $5.00 for the set.

I have a couple of ideas for this picture frame. I paid $1.50. (I hope I didn't pay too much for it?!)

New figure skates, with skate guards included! I have needed a pair for the last two years. Too cheap thrifty to pay full price. I paid $5.00.

So, there you have it, this is what gets me up early, even on Saturday morning!  My motto, whenever possible, is “buy used and save the difference”.
